The Ardèche has the largest number of unique campsites in the region, 38 in total, around the gorges and canoeing. Next comes the Drôme with 26 campsites, between Provence and the Vercors, the Savoie with 19 campsites in the mountains and by alpine lakes, the Ain with 18 campsites near the Dombes and its ponds, and the Isère with 18 campsites between the Vercors and the Chartreuse. The Puy-de-Dôme has 15 unique campsites at the foot of the Auvergne volcanoes, the Haute-Loire 10, the Cantal 7, the Haute-Savoie 5, the Rhône and the Allier 4 each, the Loire 3.
The gypsy caravan can be found at several campsites in the region, notably at Huttopia in Royat, at Lac d'Aiguebelette and in Dardilly near Lyon.
